Color Fundamentals/Oil, 1.2


One of my favorites to paint are desert succulents. In this study we will take a pair of complementary colors (directly across each other on the color wheel), and mix a palette using those hues with a variety of values, including greys. First we will spot light the cactus to better see the individual forms.


I’ll sketch in with the brush the lighter and darker value shapes that I see on the forms, gradually building up the solidity of the still life.
