Middle values. When values are in the middle range – not too much of a distance visually between very light and very dark hues. We’re back to using colored pencils choosing a monochromatic blue with additions of cool gray. First we’ll play around with a value scale going from dark to light, while still maintaining a someone “middle” range, then we’ll sketch in a blue bottle.

Using this kind of palette promises a rendering that is soft and somewhat soothing in it’s display. No harsh additions of contrasting colors or values. Some of my student’s work:
We included a sea shell in the composition, but kept the color palette the same for the shell, although it was pinker in color.
