This post comes slightly out of sequence with the others, but was a valuable lesson in drawing orchids in pastel. Just a little catch up with some of the later classes taught earlier in the summer.
There is a lovely delicacy and freshness to the structure of the orchid, a structure that lends itself to the bold lines and forms pastel marks can make.
Above, I’ve begun the drawing using only a few marks, letting the color of the paper be an integral part of the color and composition. We’re using a rectangular tetrad, Green, Violet, Yellow and Red, mixing all of those in different proportions where needed in the study.
